SCRA Selection Process

Candidates are selected for UPSC Special Class Railway Apprentice Course through written test and personality test. Those who have a grip on intermediate subjects can easily clear the SCRA exam because in this exam the questions carrying 400 marks are based on the intermediate maths, physics and chemistry syllabus.

USPC SCRA Written exam pattern:

All questions are given at the intermediate level in Special Class Railway Apprentice Exam. All are multiple choice questions given in English language. There is negative marking for the wrong answers. There are three papers in the written test with each section carrying 200 marks.

Paper-I:

General ability test (English, general knowledge, psychological test).  Test Time 2 hours. Marks 200.

Paper II: Physical science (physics, chemistry). Test time 2 hours. Marks 200.

Paper III: Mathematics. Test time 2 hours. Marks 200.

Personality test: 200 marks (to only those who have qualified in the written test) 

SCRA Exam Preparation tips:

Questions are framed to test the candidate’s knowledge and understanding of English. For this one need to practice English usage and vocabulary exercises.

In the general knowledge section, one has to focus more on the topics like physical geography, politics, history, social planning, social welfare, economics and five year plans and policies.

By going through the social and science books from 6^th to 10^th one can mostly finish their geography preparation.

For math’s, physics and chemistry one need to thoroughly read the intermediate books

Should practice as many model questions as possible

Stipend:

For candidates selected for SCRA course every month Rs 9100 is paid during the four years duration of the course. For every 6 months the semester exams are conducted. Those who are not up to mark are detained in between the course. One should write a bond paper that they shall work for at least 3 years in the railways.

Probation period of Special Class Railway Apprentice:

Those who have completed the SCRA course successfully are placed as mechanical engineers with three years’ probation period in the railways. According to present salary scales one can earn up to Rs 30,000 in the probation period. Along with this one can travel in the AC coaches along with their family free of cost. Those who are selected in SCRA can grow in the future to handle top position like the railway board chairman. Positions to railway divisional engineer, zonal chief engineer etc can be achieved by everyone who are selected for the SCRA.

What is the Qualification criteria for UPSC SCRA Exam?

Education qualification: 10+2 / intermediate with 50% marks in math’s, physics and chemistry is compulsory.

Age limit: Should not be below 17 years and above 21 years on August 1^st of the examination conducted year. There is age relaxation of maximum 5 years for SC, ST and three years to the OBC’s.

Available Seats: Based on the vacancies and roughly up to 50 are available.

Notification: For every two years released in February or March.
